Following the critical acclaim of their 2023 album Beyond That Wall, Despite The Wane returns with their new single, “The Angel of Death,” and it’s a mesmerizing triumph. From the opening notes, the track immerses the listener in a lush sonic landscape of pulsing basslines and shimmering synths. It’s a seamless fusion of new wave, goth, prog, and electronic rock hallmarks of the band’s evolving sound. It was launched on 22nd November, 2024.

Mir Kollins’ baritone vocals are spellbinding, delivering a deeply metaphorical narrative that explores existential themes with haunting poignancy. His voice, simultaneously commanding and introspective, anchors the track’s metaphysical musings, giving it emotional heft. Complementing Kollins is Max Dury’s stellar guitar work, which oscillates between driving urgency and aching introspection. His evocative solos enhance the song’s atmospheric depth, adding layers of tension and release.

The production is equally outstanding. It found a seamless balance between the group's complex arrangements and its conceptual ambitions. A mix of shimmering synth sounds with strong percussion and the expressive fretwork creates an enveloping soundscape that feels grand and intimate.

Something uplifting "The Angel of Death" is its commitment to the material. Despite its greatness in cinema but the song never succumbs to empty imagery. But it was a carefully crafted piece of art that solidified The Wane's position as a leader in modern Italian rock. This song proves that Beyond That Wall wasn't a fluke, rather, it is an expression of the band's creative vitality.
