Released on December 7, 2024, Tangerine, the debut EP from Shawn Stedman’s solo project, Meat in Space, is a compelling exploration of resilience and self-expression. Anchored by its standout title track, this collection channels the raw energy of garage rock while weaving in elements of psych rock, 90s alternative, and grunge. The EP’s dedication to analog production amplifies its authenticity, with tracks recorded using an Ampex ATR-102 reel-to-reel and Tascam 388 8-track.

The single “Tangerine” epitomizes the EP’s spirit, with citrus-inspired symbolism representing a breakthrough from despondency. The track’s driving garage rock groove, searing guitar riffs, and psych-tinged bass solo create a dynamic and cathartic listening experience. It’s a track born in an instant, written and recorded with minimal revision a testament to Stedman’s creative instincts.

Each song on "Tangerine" has its own personality. From four-track experimental tape sounds to grunge anthems and acoustic moments, closing track “Call the Coroner” delivers a fiery garage rock energy which make the listener want to listen more.

Stedman's DIY ethos and musical versatility shine through in his song-writing, performance, and mixing. Influences like Ty Segall, early Nirvana and King Gizzard reverberate throughout the EP, but "Tangerine" maintains its own unique style.

Available on cassette tapes. A nod to its analogue roots, "Tangerine" is a must-listen for fans of unpolished, soulful rock. It was a bold and memorable release that established Meet in Space as an exciting new voice in the genre.
